Samsung Refrigerator moderate

1E Freezer sensor error

The Samsung 1E error code means the freezer temperature sensor (thermistor) is sending an invalid reading. This is usually a failed $8-$18 sensor — one of the easiest Samsung fridge repairs you can do yourself.

What Causes This Error

1

Freezer temperature sensor (thermistor) failed

high

The thermistor that reads freezer temperature has gone open-circuit or short-circuit, sending an out-of-range reading to the main board.

2

Sensor wiring damaged or disconnected

medium

The 2-pin connector between the freezer sensor and the main PCB has come loose, or the wire has been pinched by the back panel.

3

Main control board fault

low

The ADC (analog-to-digital converter) circuit on the main board that reads the sensor has failed.

How to Fix Error 1E

  1. 1

    Power cycle the refrigerator

Unplug for 5 minutes, then plug back in. If the error clears and the freezer reaches temperature normally, it was a one-time glitch.

  2. 2

Enter diagnostic mode to read sensor value

On most Samsung models: hold the Power Freeze and Fridge buttons simultaneously for 8-10 seconds. The display will cycle through sensor readings. The freezer sensor should show a temperature (not 'Er' or a wildly wrong number).

  3. 3

    Locate the freezer temperature sensor

Remove the back panel inside the freezer compartment (usually 4-6 Phillips screws). The freezer thermistor is a small capsule clipped to the evaporator coils or mounted on a bracket nearby, connected by a 2-pin wire.

  4. 4

Test the sensor with a multimeter

Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. At 0°F (-18°C) it should read approximately 16k-17k ohms. At room temperature (77°F) it reads about 5k ohms. An open circuit (OL) or 0 ohms means it's failed.

Always unplug the refrigerator before disconnecting any sensor.
  5. 5

    Check wiring and connector

Inspect the 2-pin connector for corrosion or looseness. Follow the wire back toward the main board looking for pinch points or damage where it passes through the cabinet wall.

  6. 6

    Replace the freezer thermistor

If the sensor tests bad, order Samsung part DA32-10105R or DA32-10109V (varies by model). It clips in place and plugs into the existing connector — a 10-minute repair.

Replacement Parts

If the steps above don't fix it, you may need one of these parts:

Freezer Temperature Sensor (Thermistor)

$8-$18

Main Control Board

$80-$250

When to Call a Professional

If the sensor and wiring test fine but the error persists, the main control board likely needs replacement

  • Main board diagnosis requires checking voltage at the sensor connector pins
  • If the board's ADC circuit has failed, a new DA92-00384B or equivalent board is needed
  • A technician can read full error history to confirm the failure pattern
