6E Fridge ambient sensor error

The Samsung 6E error code means the ambient (room temperature) sensor is reading out of range. The fridge will still cool normally — this sensor only helps optimize energy usage. Often fixes itself with a power cycle, or needs a cheap sensor swap.

What Causes This Error

1

Ambient (room) temperature sensor failed

high

The thermistor that reads the room temperature around the fridge has gone open or short-circuit. The fridge uses this to adjust compressor run time based on ambient conditions.

2

Sensor connector loose or corroded

medium

The ambient sensor is typically mounted on the main control board or near it at the back of the unit. Vibration can loosen the connector over time.

3

Main control board fault

low

If the ambient sensor is built into the main board (common on newer models), the board itself may need replacement.

How to Fix Error 6E

  1. 1

    Power cycle the refrigerator

Unplug for 5 minutes. The 6E error often clears permanently after a reset since ambient sensor faults can be triggered by power spikes.

  2. 2

Check if the fridge is operating normally

If both compartments are cooling properly despite the error, the ambient sensor may have intermittent contact. The fridge will still run but may not optimize its energy usage.

  3. 3

    Locate the ambient sensor

On most Samsung models, the ambient sensor is either on the main control board itself (back of the fridge, bottom panel) or mounted separately near the board with a short wire lead.

  4. 4

    Test the ambient sensor

If it's a separate sensor (not on-board), disconnect and test with a multimeter. At room temperature (77°F/25°C) it should read approximately 5k ohms.

Unplug the fridge before accessing the control board area.
  5. 5

    Reseat or replace the sensor

If separate: replace with Samsung part DA32-10105R. If built into the board: you'll need to replace the entire main control board (DA92-00384B or model-specific equivalent).

Replacement Parts

If the steps above don't fix it, you may need one of these parts:

Ambient Temperature Sensor

$8-$18

Main Control Board

$80-$250

When to Call a Professional

If the ambient sensor is integrated into the main board and cannot be replaced separately

  • Board-mounted sensors can't be replaced individually
  • The 6E is a lower-priority error — the fridge still cools, so it's safe to schedule service rather than emergency
  • A tech can confirm whether your model has a separate or integrated ambient sensor
